A SALTY fitness retreat in Costa Rica is an all-inclusive group fitness trip on the Osa Peninsula: daily beach workouts and yoga, a pro surf lesson at Pan Dulce, jungle hikes, and chef-cooked meals at Blue Osa, a private beachfront retreat between the rainforest and the Pacific. Groups run 25-30 guests, most arrive solo, and every single session is optional. It's the most balanced trip in the SALTY lineup - real sweat, real rest, zero preachiness.
Why Costa Rica
The Osa Peninsula is the wildest corner of Costa Rica. National Geographic once called it "the most biologically intense place on Earth," and honestly, the howler monkeys will confirm this at 5 a.m. whether you asked or not.
There's no mall here. No chain anything. Just primary rainforest running straight into the ocean, scarlet macaws overhead, the occasional sloth doing its slow-motion thing, and whales passing through the gulf in winter. If most fitness retreats happen next to nature, this one happens inside it.
We could have picked somewhere easier to get to. We picked somewhere better to be.
What You'll Actually Do
This is the trip where SALTY slows down a notch - still sweaty, just with more rest baked in. A typical day at our Costa Rica fitness retreat looks like:
- Morning Crew at sunrise - strength and conditioning on the beach, scalable from "first workout in months" to "please humble me"
- Yoga on the open-air deck while the jungle wakes up around you
- Movement workshops with the Synergy team - coaches with Cirque du Soleil and Olympic-level credentials, teaching sessions you genuinely can't get at your gym back home
- A pro surf lesson at Pan Dulce, one of the best teaching waves in Costa Rica. Gentle, forgiving, and great for first-timers
- A jungle hike to Matapalo Waterfall - proper terrain, wildlife everywhere, a swim at the end
- Hammock time. Scheduled nowhere, encouraged everywhere.
On our trip meter, Costa Rica scores a 9 on rest - the highest in the lineup. That's the point. You push in the morning and you recover like it's your job for the rest of the day.
Who It's For
Solo travelers, mostly - about 65% of guests on this trip come alone and leave with a group chat that won't quiet down. It suits all fitness levels because every workout scales, and it's built for people who like wildlife more than nightlife.
If you want big-group energy and late nights, we have other trips for that (hi, Sicily). If you want to start a year strong, surf a little, and remember what eight hours of sleep feels like, this is the one.
Where It Happens
Home base is Blue Osa, a private beachfront eco-retreat on the edge of the Osa Peninsula - open-air yoga deck, pool, hammocks, chef's kitchen, and rooms that open onto the jungle. Meals are all-inclusive, cooked on-site, and dietary needs are covered.
Getting there: fly into San José (SJO), hop a small domestic plane to Puerto Jiménez, and we handle the transfer from there. Yes, the tiny plane is part of the experience. The views make the case for it.
How a SALTY Trip in Costa Rica Works
You book a room, tell us how you like to eat, and show up. We plan everything else - training, food, excursions, transfers from Puerto Jiménez. Nothing is mandatory. Sweat as much as feels good, surf if you're curious, and nap without guilt.
Trips start from $1,949 for the week. We're a fitness travel company that thinks fun is the whole point of being healthy - our slogan is literally "Make fun of wellness." Costa Rica is where that philosophy gets a jungle soundtrack.
