What a SALTY surf and yoga week looks like
Every SALTY week has 2–3 coached sessions a day. Mornings start with a workout or a yoga flow. After breakfast comes a surf lesson with local instructors, or a free afternoon at the beach or the pool.
Evenings are for long group dinners and games with a crew of 20 to 35 adults. SALTY is the wellness retreat for people who like to have fun, so the training is real and the mood stays light.

Which SALTY trips include surf lessons
Four SALTY trips include surf lessons in the trip price. Here is what each one says it includes.
- Portugal: 3 surf lessons, with a board and wetsuit all week. The home base is Gota D’Água Surf Camp in Costa da Caparica, 3 minutes by bike from the beach, and the lessons are for all levels. Read the Portugal guide.
- Morocco: multiple surf sessions with local guides, including a day trip to Imsouane. Beginners start on soft-tops at Banana Beach, and boards and wetsuits are provided. You stay at Surf and Friends Lodge in Taghazout. Read the Morocco guide.
- Costa Rica: a full surf lesson with a local pro at Pan Dulce, a soft, rolling right-hand wave that suits beginners. Extra sessions are available. You stay at Blue Osa on the Osa Peninsula. Read the Costa Rica guide.
- Sri Lanka: the Dreamsea Level 0 surf package, with 5 lessons and 10+ hours of in-water instruction plus a theory session, and free board rentals all week. Level 1 and 2 lessons are available for intermediates. Read the Sri Lanka guide.
Our Nicaragua and El Salvador trips are in surf towns too. Surf lessons there are optional and booked on site, so they are not part of the trip price.

Never surfed? Start here
You do not need surf experience for any of these trips. Portugal’s three lessons are for all levels. In Morocco, beginners start on soft-tops at Banana Beach. Pan Dulce in Costa Rica suits first-timers and is still fun for experienced surfers.
In Sri Lanka, most guests start as total beginners, and the Level 0 package is designed for them. Intermediate surfers can book Level 1 or 2 lessons with the same instructors. The only fitness required there is the ability to swim and walk.
On every trip, each workout has an easier and a harder version.

Real workouts and yoga around the waves
Surf lessons are one part of the week. Each trip has coached training and yoga around them, and the mix changes with the coaches who come along.
In Costa Rica, Surfs Up Pilates is built around surf technique and the muscles you paddle with. Sri Lanka mixes strength, MetCon, boxing and Pilates with morning and sunset yoga. Morocco has daily strength and conditioning with rooftop yoga on most mornings. Portugal adds Pilates to its daily workouts and yoga.

Frequently asked questions
What is a surf and yoga retreat?
A surf and yoga retreat is a trip that pairs surf lessons with yoga, usually in a coastal town. A SALTY week adds coached workouts and a group of 20 to 35 adults, with surf lessons for all levels on the trips that include them.
Do I need to know how to surf?
No. Portugal’s 3 lessons are for all levels, Sri Lanka’s Level 0 package is built for first-timers, and in Morocco beginners start on soft-tops at Banana Beach. Pan Dulce in Costa Rica is a soft, rolling wave that suits beginners.
Which SALTY trips include surf lessons?
Portugal includes 3 lessons with a board and wetsuit. Morocco includes multiple surf sessions with local guides. Costa Rica includes a full lesson with a local pro at Pan Dulce. Sri Lanka includes the Dreamsea Level 0 package, with 5 lessons and 10+ hours of in-water instruction.
Are Nicaragua and El Salvador surf trips too?
Both trips are in surf towns, but surf lessons there are optional and booked on site. They are not included in the trip price.
Can I come on my own?
Yes. 65% of our guests travel solo, and groups run 20 to 35 people. You meet the group in a private WhatsApp chat about a month before you fly.
What does a day look like on a surf week?
On our Portugal trip a sample day starts with morning yoga and breakfast. The surf lesson follows at 10:30 AM, with lunch at camp, afternoon Pilates, free time and dinner. Surf times follow the tide, so the schedule shifts a little each day.
Is SALTY the same company as The Salty or Salty Souls?
No. SALTY Retreats is an Ottawa company and a separate business from The Salty and Salty Souls.
How do I book a SALTY trip?
Pick a trip and hold your spot with a deposit. The rest is split into payments before you fly.
